Cuan Mhuire, Ireland’s largest voluntary provider of Addiction Treatment Services and Residential
Rehabilitation, today formally opened the residential treatment service for Gambling Addiction at
their Coolarne, Galway facility, funded by GamblingCare.ie.
Cuan Mhuire Chairperson, Gerry McElroy, explained how important this funding is to the Coolarne
Service stating ‘with the increase of people seeking support for gambling addiction, Cuan Mhuire delivers an
evidence based programme ensuring all staff providing support have received specialist training with
the most current knowledge on treatment in the field of gambling addiction’ he went on to say ‘the
funding from GamblingCare has enabled us to provide the best support to the people we deal with
healing and recovering from gambling addiction’.
GamblingCare have been working in partnership with Cuan Mhuire since 2020, funding specialist
residential programmes in both Athy and Bruree. These programmes have supported hundreds of individuals and their families. CEO Pam Bergin expressed the importance of their partnership with Cuan Mhuire saying ‘we are very proud of what we have achieved with Cuan Mhuire in the last four years, introducing the first bespoke gambling residential treatment programmes in Ireland, the first of which was opened during the extremely difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic. 92 people
received treatment in Athy that first year and it has been a hugely successful programme. We are delighted to support its expansion to the Bruree and Galway centres.’
Performing the launch, Oisin McConville, Brand Ambassador for GamblingCare, said ‘this is a
particularly poignant occasion for me given I received my treatment here in Coolarne almost twenty
years ago. I am eternally grateful for the support I received here and can’t express how satisfying it is
to support the opening of a specialist programme for gambling addiction.’
This bespoke programme compliments the diverse range of services funded by GamblingCare all across the country and will be a significant addition to service provision in the West of Ireland.
